The Primary Section Stories – 20/11

We are all glad to be back in school again this week. Although our 4 days online learning went very well students and staff are all agreed we would rather be here in the building. We know that for some families learning at home causes great inconvenience and stress for everyone but we appreciate the support you give to your children.

We were happy that some of our classes were able to have a Diwali celebration online and some children chose to wear their celebration clothes to school on Monday.

As we couldn’t hold our Armistice Assembly we had a small gathering on the playground on Wednesday. We listened to classes 4 to 8 perform a very moving song called ‘In The Silence’ together. This refers to the 2 minutes silence that many countries have to remember all those who sacrificed their lives for the greater good.

On Wednesday we held the parent information evening on Safeguarding. It was actually only 35 minutes long and we had advertised it as a very important meeting so we were a little disappointed with the take up. Please could you note these meetings are aimed at adults, the content is not intended for children and as we were mentioning things like sexual abuse we were concerned at the number of children participating. We do understand that occasionally they are there for translation purposes.

Next week on Wednesday at 6.00pm we will be talking to the parents of students from class 3 to class 9 about the ISA examinations that the school will start in February. Please keep an eye open for the link which will be shared with you either later today or early next week.

As we approach the Christmas period we have a variety of activities planned in school. There will be class parties at the end. Please make sure all snacks sent in are strictly vegetarian – no gelatin included. There will be a Christmas Jumper day and we will be celebrating Sinterklaas at the beginning of December. The house competition will be to build a gingerbread house in class. We will also be practising some christmas songs and decorating the classrooms.

Have a wonderful weekend
