The Primary Section Stories – 02/02/2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

There has been some great learning taking place in primary these last couple of weeks. As our teachers are very highly qualified, dedicated and experienced they really understand how children learn best and make sure they have the best opportunities possible. All children are different and have different learning needs so we do not have a one size fits all approach we try to tailor the activities to fit different groups of children or provide activities that are accessible in a variety of ways. In my role as head of primary I formally observe many of the lessons in school and I am always filled with a great sense of pride in our students and staff and all that they can accomplish.

Last Friday class 5  presented the work they have done recently on ‘Weather and Climate’. I was very impressed with their presentation skills both oral and computer based. They had done their own research and experiments, made weather measuring equipment, recorded the weather for a while,  identified the points they wanted to share, put it into their own words and collaborated in small groups to present it to the rest of the primary classes. They were all very confident. Some had also made video presentations about extreme weather as if they were newscasters. These were very professionally done, with dramatic expression professional outfits – the works. Well done Class 5 and their teacher Ms G.

Class 3 trip to Technopolis in Mechelen. Today class 3 were able to take a trip to Technopolis to support their learning in the IPC unit Bright Sparks, which is about electricity, circuits and how we use them today. Many of the displays had an electrical component including such things as conductivity. The students each had a wristband that logged them into the many onsite computers. They would be asked a question and then had to search the displays for the answer. They logged in again and if they gave the correct answer they were given another question. It was a very interactive way to explore the centre and everyone really enjoyed the experience. As a school we understand that outside excursions can really make memorable additions to the learning experience.

Our Early Years team continues to provide a very dynamic and engaging learning environment for our youngest children. This term we have welcomed three under threes into the youngest class. They have all settled very well and are enjoying coming to school.

On Friday 9th February we will be having our ‘Carnival’ celebrations, when all the staff and students will be dressed up to celebrate. The half term holiday begins on the 10th february.

Our second round of the Olympiad Competition takes place on Sunday 11th February. Thank you to our teachers who are giving up their holiday to be there. Everyone involved has already been notified.

On the 9th March it will be our school open morning. All students are expected to attend. We will have the final of the speech competition and musical performances as well as all of the classrooms being open to view. We do hope you will be able to come along and see our wonderful school in action.

Have a great weekend.

Exciting news at ISBe! We are holding our annual Music Talent Show on the 19th of March! Everyone at ISBe in both primary and secondary is welcome to participate. They can sing a song or play on an instrument. They can perform on their own or as a group. The only rule is that the performances have to be well rehearsed as we want high quality performances! The winners of the Talent Show will get to participate in the end of year show in June. I look forward to seeing the talent!
