September came and went! (Class 4)

The start of the school year was filled with uncertainty and we all wondered how this new school format, with class bubbles and masks, would work. Yet the children, as they so often do, adapted to the ‘new normal’ like ducklings to water. We had a great start.

In Class 4 we have been learning about the brain and how we learn. We looked into Global Citizenship as well and discussed what we could do as global humans to help and support the planet. Our assembly was on this theme as well and we have enclosed some of our work.

We then moved on to our next topic from our International Primary Curriculum: Space Scientists. We have been learning about what the Earth is made of, it’s location in our galaxy with relation to the sun and how they interact with each other.
We even made our own videos of this interaction. Here are some screen grabs from our videos.

Within our Maths topics, we have been revisiting number and place value, along with Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Divisions strategies, formal and informal. We will be moving on later in the term to look at shape, geometry, symmetry and statistics.

This week we started working on our own creative stories within our English lessons. We had been looking at some stories from significant writers where there was a fundamental shift in the main character’s personality. Most of our stories have taken inspiration from the wonderfully creative tale of James and the Giant Peach, aided by Taika Waititi and his friends’ professional reading skills!

Our specialist teachers have been hard at work as well, adding to our creative world of learning: African dance songs in Music, artwork inspired by Pieter Breughel, effervescent and heart racing activities within PE, all accompanied by the complicated yet fun exploration of Dutch and French. Obviously not forgetting our rich performances within our drama productions.

Not to mention all the invigorating learning made possible by the arrival of new individual chromebooks which make research projects and investigations far easier with an abundance of information at the click of a button! Thanks Google (and parents, family and school!).

Half term looms and there is so much more engrossing and captivating learning to be had! Here’s to the rest of a fulfilling year!
