The Primary Section Stories – 31/03/2023

Today we have had our Student Led Conferences for the first time and we are delighted with the way our students have talked about and demonstrated their learning, as well as the very positive responses from our parents. The day has been a tremendous success and I am sure parents feel far better informed about what their children can do. We were expecting a few hitches but everything went very smoothly. Thank you to all the students and their parents who took part.

Last Friday Class 1, and a couple of guests, shared with us everything they knew about Ramadan. We have quite a few Muslim students in school and it was very interesting to hear about this special time of doing good, praying, fasting and finally celebration. Class 1 had prepared a treat of special dates for us all at the end, as if we too were breaking our fast. Well done Ms Saachi and class 1.

The week before we rounded off our Science and Maths week with an assembly where students shared some of the things they had learned that week. Students had spent the week focussing on Maths and Science activities. We saw some incredible lessons. Secondary students kindly took classes (under supervision of course) with some of the primary students. I saw a very exciting one where they demonstrated how different metals burn with different coloured flames and another on healthy bodies and healthy eating. The primary students really enjoyed these visits and all of the special activities of the week.

Saturday was our open morning when we were able to share some of these activities with existing parents and new ones.Thank you to everyone who came. We had very good feedback from everyone who was there and they enjoyed trying and seeing the activities.

Yesterday we had an assembly to say goodbye to Ms Celine who is a trainee teacher who has been working with us for the last two months. She has been a great help and we wish her all the best for her future career. We also wished Ms Nichols all the best for her maternity leave. We hope everything goes well for her and her husband Mr Aldo and we await the news of their new baby. We were able to present both with lovely bouquets and cards from the classes.

This week we were able to restart our exchange trips with the Jesode Hatora – Beth Jacob school. Our boys went to visit them and their girls came to visit us. The visit went very well and it is very good for both of the schools to interact with each other’s culture. We are hoping more classes will be able to join in with the exchange next time and for a slightly longer period.

Ms Georgiana, our Class 5 teacher, has been on medical leave for the last two and a half weeks as she had an operation. I would like to congratulate class 5 on how helpful they have been in her absence and say thanks to Ms Alex who has been looking after the class.

The second round results of the Olympiad Science and Maths competition are now in and we would like to congratulate all the participants who made it into the second round. Once the medals are received later in the year we will take some photos to share with you.

Have a great weekend.
