The Primary Section Stories – 20/10

Dear Parents and Carers,

We carried out the National Science Olympiad this week. 20 Students took part from class 3 to Class 10. We expect the results after Christmas. Well done to everyone who took part.

Monday is the final day for Maths Olympiad entries. If you have not sent in your child’s entry yet, Monday is your absolute last chance.

Thursday we had the House Pumpkin Carving event. For this the teachers represent the houses and work out a design, cut and decorate a Pumpkin. The teachers got very creative; we had glitter, feathers and smoke and it was a fun event for the students. They cheered like mad!

Our class assemblies have continued. Last week Class 1 did an assembly about Christopher Columbus and his voyage to the Americas. They presented this very well and were able to convey some of the social issues regarding the treatment of the indiginous peoples there. They performed a fantastic song that summed it all up, and the rest of the school were able to join in at the end. Today the Primary Student Voice told us all about their ‘Thriller Killer’ Event for Halloween which will take place next Friday. Activities include apple bobbing, an escape room, fun games like a mummy sack race, slim throwing etc. Each student needs to bring in 5 euros to take part in this Halloween event. This money will be used by the 2nd set of Student Voice Representatives in Term 2 to renew a small part of the school. Thank you for your support, participation and cooperation.

Don’t forget that on Monday the children can come to school in their national dress to celebrate Diwali.

As you will all know we are no longer accepting birthday party bags in school. The system since the parent orientation day is that you can send in a cake and then your class teacher has a list of books (usually on Amazon) one of which can be purchased on behalf of your child and presented to the class to celebrate their birthday. The book has a sticker placed in the front explaining whose birthday it was bought for. Our students feel very proud when they share their birthday book with the class. If you need more details please get in touch with your class teacher.

Please note that for safeguarding reasons students are not allowed to wear watches that can take photos in school. If they photograph other students without their permission it is a breach of the privacy laws. It can also be very hard to detect when it is happening and can possibly lead to cyberbullying.

This week class 2 went on their school trip to the National Science Museum in Brussels. Their focus was on the dinosaurs. They really learned a lot and were able to apply the things they had already learned in the classroom. We were only able to visit a small part of the Museum in one day as it is very large. It is well worth a visit if you are looking for somewhere to take the family for an outing.

Have a great weekend.
