The Primary Section Stories – 20/01

Welcome back to a chilly new term in 2023. We hope you had happy winter holidays. The students have come back ready to get on and do things, which is lovely.

As part of my role I visit classes and observe lessons throughout the  year. I am just finishing my current round and I wanted to share with you how proud I am of the quality of teaching in the school. I can confirm the students are getting the best lessons possible, allowing them to make so much progress. Congratulations to the teaching team.

In last week’s assembly we revisited the school’s guiding statements of Dream, Achieve, Celebrate Unite. I was delighted with the aspirations of some of our primary students. They want to be anything from musicians and chefs to astronauts. There is no want of ambition here! They understand that they need to work hard in school to achieve their dreams and that we celebrate everyone’s successes whether small or large. We were talking about the word Unite and one of our children asked ‘Is that why they are called the United States?. Some clear evidence that our students are making connections in their brains.

Today in Assembly we celebrated the Chinese New year which is based on the Lunar Calendar and will be celebrated on Sunday. Thank you to Ms Nichols and her helpers for a wonderful, dramatic and informative assembly.

Today Class 3 took a trip to Technopolis, linked to their unit called ‘Bright Sparks’ which is all about electrical circuits and how electricity is created and used around the world. They have such a fantastic range of experiments and exhibitions, most of which are interactive. I really recommend it as a place for a family visit too. Everyone had a wonderful time. Please ask class 3 students all about it.

This week we had the Unicorns house event. They arranged for our talented musicians to perform for their houses in a competition. Students from class 1 to Class 10 took part and it was lovely to see the burgeoning talent we have in school. I was able to watch some of the performances personally but one or two I couldn’t make it. Luckily my office is very near the Theatre, so I could hear the performances even if I couldn’t see them. Each one was very well presented by the Phoenix house captain hosts. It was a lovely event for the school.

Linking back to ‘Achieve’, the Olympiad results will be with us very soon. We will share the information with individual parents and students but I would just like to congratulate everyone who took part in this voluntary competition.

Have a great weekend.
