The Primary Section Stories – 07/10

Dear Parents and Carers,

Over the last two weeks we have had a new Student President and Vice President elected. This is the first time it has happened since I have been at the school so it is very exciting. Congratulations to Archit and Natasha. They carried out a great campaign and were successful. I would like to give a mention to the other candidates who also ran very good campaigns and hope they will try again next year.

Last Friday Class 3 performed a wonderful assembly that they had written themselves. They covered Maths, English and IPC and gave us a lovely peek at the work they are doing. The standard of their presentations was very good. They spoke slowly and clearly. Very well done.

Today Class 2 led our assembly and performed the book, ‘The Good Egg’ by Jory John and Pete Oswald. The students looked very cute in their egg masks and took us through the story of an egg that began to crack under pressure and how he restored his shell. The story explores behaviour, mental wellbeing and how to avoid putting ourselves under undue pressure at a level that children can easily understand. Well done Class 2 I think we all learned from it and it was lovely to watch.

We also celebrated International teachers day in school with a special teachers lunch. The students wrote messages to their teachers on a poster that we put up in the theatre. We really appreciated the kind words, cards and gifts from the students. Thank you.

I hope that by now you have had your ‘settling in’ meeting with your child’s class teacher. It is important that parents and school work together for our students’ development, so we want to set off on the right foot. So far I have had good feedback from everyone. If you haven’t had your meeting yet please contact the teacher directly. You may have missed the invitation through Engage or something similar.

On Tuesday the staff had an ‘outside learning’ staff meeting at Neerland park in Wilrijk, also known as Park van Eeden. Thankfully we were blessed with lovely weather and teachers were able to try out different activities to explore how they could set up lessons outside. There is quite a lot of research showing that students can really benefit from outside learning especially for higher order thinking skills such as problem solving. This was all linked to our MOS Vlaanderen project. If we do manage to change the school grounds we want to make sure that all staff and students will use it.

On Monday 24th October it will be Diwali. Children can come to school in traditional dress and on Friday 28th October it will be our Halloween parade and so you may want to start work on your Halloween costumes.

Have a great weekend.
