The Primary Section Stories – 03/02

Dear Parents,

This week classes 3,4 and 5 have begun practising for the ISA tests in two weeks time. As we have mentioned many times before, this isn’t a test they can revise for as it is not really about content but about general skills and reasoning skills. The assessment is carried out online so the students have been practising using the system and the answer mechanisms. We hope they do well and look forward to the results in a few weeks time. Results are not shared with parents individually but help the school to know about its overall performance and can help identify any areas for development and areas of strength in our curriculum.

Information Alert:

ISBe will run Student Led Conferences for the first time ever at the end of term 2!

At ISBe we encourage students to be active in the learning process and take charge of their learning journey. We want them to be familiar with how they best learn, advocate for themselves and be continuously focused on improvement and growth. We also focus on developing skills of presentation in our students, to empower them to be effective communicators.

Research clearly shows us that one of the most powerful tools for students in their learning process is to be able to effectively reflect on their learning and identify their strengths and areas of improvement.

This term, instead of a regular report and parent /teacher conferences, students themselves will present their learning and progress through Student Led conferences. This will take a variety of forms depending on the age of the students.

This process will be new to you as well as the students and we are looking for your support in this process as your child gets to showcase their learning.

MORE INFORMATION will be provided in the coming weeks.

In last week’s assembly we asked the students ‘How do they know they have been successful?’. We discussed success in learning such as mastering a new skill, success in relationships, being able to get on with everybody and what sometimes the world perceives as success and whether it is really important. We decided that we should all recognise and celebrate our successes whether big or small.

Today in Assembly Class 5 shared the things they have been learning about the Mayan civilization. It is a very exciting topic to study. They were very brave and used only images to support their presentation, the rest they delivered from their hearts. They are working hard to develop their confidence and presentation skills. Great job Class 5.

Class 2 recently had their trip to Chocolate Nation where they saw the things they have learned about Chocolate put together in one presentation. They were delighted to taste the different types of chocolate at the end.

On Monday class 7 organised an ‘Are you OK?’ day or ‘R U OK?’ as I think they shortened it. They provided activities for students and staff to help with mental wellbeing including a Zen room for staff. They did a fantastic job of organising the day and supervising events.

Last Friday Primary Class 5 were very excited to be invited to the secondary ‘Winter Formal’ dance. It was a great honour for them and they had a wonderful time.

The second round of the Olympiad exams will take place in school on Sunday 12th February. Students who made it through have now all been notified.

Have a great weekend.
