Labels and Stereotypes: The Quest for Our True Identity!!

Bonjour,

French IB has returned in full force! What better topic to start with than Identity- who am I, what defines me and the world around me?

In the IB French lessons we have been recently occupying ourselves with one of the five prescribed themes: identities. We first covered labels or Les Étiquettes, in which we learnt that labels hold us back and keep us small. We define ourselves by our labels, and this can lead to self-limiting beliefs. For example, calling someone a word such as “annoying” can stick with them, and prevent future friendship possibilities. In addition, we learnt about stereotypes in Canada and France or Les Stéréotypes.

J’ai adoré apprendre sur différents pays et personnes.

Natasha

Bonjour tout le monde,

We learned a lot on how to discuss different cultures and people. Not only that, but we also orally presented our own culture and learned the differences between our own culture and the cultures of others. Furthermore, we also spent time on learning new vocabulary related to stereotypes and identities.

Merci pour votre attention,

Shridhar

One of the key things I enjoyed learning was about putting labels on an individual. Recognizing this poor instinct humans portray, helped me write an essay about the drawback of putting labels and why one should not do it. As a class, we often did frequent presentations and learned new phrases and terms. For example, we saw how artists use music to express their identity, from Angèle to Black M or Eminem.

Une histoire d’amour si on oublie les étiquettes!

Au revoir les étiquettes!

What’s next? Creating our own short movie in a quest to find our true Identity.

À suivre ! (to be continued! )

How can we help you
