Environmentally Friendly ISBe

Have you ever wondered if our school is being environmentally friendly?. Well, we asked around 50 students a few questions and we got a range of answers. According to the results of our survey,  many students say that the school is environmentally friendly, though some students think there needs to be an improvement.

How is the school not being environmentally friendly?

The main reason for the school not being environmentally friendly is that people come with personal transport which causes more pollution which is bad for the environment, so we could try and get more people to come and go home by bus as much as possible. Students who said that the school isn’t being environmentally friendly are saying that we could get more environmentally friendly if we banned plastic bottles and reduced the usage of plastic.

How is the school being environmentally friendly?

Most students say that the school is being environmentally friendly because we have dustbins in each classroom for general waste and the other for paper. Also, when the teachers print something wrong or printed too much we would put it in the scrap paper box instead of throwing it away. The teachers also try to use as little paper as possible.

What are students doing to be environmentally friendly?

When ISBe families are organising events, they try to use reusable items. Students also try to be environmentally friendly by making something out of waste items like cardboard. For example, our preschool students used wooden boxes and toilet rolls to make steamboats for Sinterklaas. Moreover, in our English class we only ever use scrap paper to write down our ideas.Another great thing about ISBe is that most students use reusable bottles, instead of plastic bottles, which they fill up using the water filter in the lunchroom.

To conclude our school is environmentally friendly though on some occasions it might not be the friendliest. We try our best as a school to be good for the environment. The most important thing is that we  teach younger children about the importance of being environmentally friendly and maybe they could make a change in the coming years.
