Early Years Barefoot Mud Walk-By Mrs Harwood

Early years had a very sticky, squelchy trip to De Schorre in Boom, where they went on a barefoot walk in the woods through the mud. This is an organised activity that the park provides for children to experience nature in a sensory way. The children were very surprised to be asked to remove their boots but soon they were enjoying the fun sensation of liquid mud squirt through their toes!!

There were many different surfaces to walk on including sand, bark, wood chips, fake grass, gravel and wooden planks. It was so wonderful to see the joy and excitement on the children’s faces to be allowed to get dirty and not worry about it. Parts of the course were quite challenging and pushed the children to be resilient and solve slippery problems!
There is something wonderful about seeing barefoot children running through the woods screaming with excitement, it is definitely one of the more memorable trips that we’ve done in Early years and I hope the children will encourage you to take them on more walks like this.
