The Secondary Section Stories – 13/05

What a difference it makes to have the good weather of late – sunshine and blue skies make everybody so positive- long may it continue.

Our class 10 students continue their IGCSE exams and secondary students generally are preparing for their last assessments for the year. Middle block exams are next month 15-17 June.

The transition program for our class 5 students moving into the secondary school next year continues. A parent workshop was held last week as part of this process to discuss how adolescent brain development may impact on the social and emotional growth and behaviour of students. A second workshop for parents will be held next month on organization and logistics.

Speaking of transition processes, we hosted the European University Consortium (EUC) who represented about 8 universities across Europe and talked with class 9- 11 about transition options for university. Students were interested to find that there are many viable university options for studying in English throughout Europe.

This last term to the year is a busy one and there are a number of excursions planned before the end of the year. The first of these was for class 6 who visited the Gravesteen Castle in Gent this week as part of their social science program. Immersing themselves in the past and getting first hand exposure to historical sources, really deepens their understanding.

Most of our class 6 and 7 students will be performing this Saturday at De Cinema. Under the guidance of Mr Aldo and Ms Nichols they will be providing the musical accompaniment to some films.  I am looking forward to seeing their skills in action.

Saturday 21 – International Day

Wednesday 25 – Decade Day – come dressed in clothing from the style of a particular decade
