The Secondary Section Stories 09/05/2025

Secondary Newsletter 09/05/2025

To our valued parents and ISBe community members,

We hope you all enjoyed the long weekend and have been making the most of the spring sunshine. It has certainly brought a positive energy to campus, even as some of our students remain focused indoors.

Our Year 10 and Year 12 students are currently in the midst of their IGCSE and IBDP examinations. While they may not be spending much time outside, it has been heartening to see them leave their exam rooms with smiles—an encouraging sign of their hard work and preparation. We wish them continued success over the coming weeks.

Last Friday, our staff participated in a rich and varied Professional Development Day. The sessions included a workshop on critical thinking using lie detector activities, an introduction to Zones of Regulation to support student well-being, and updates on our ongoing NEASC accreditation process. In addition, staff refreshed their first aid knowledge and took part in a hands-on fire safety training delivered by the Belgian Fire Service. These practical sessions including the use of fire extinguishers and fire blankets were a valuable opportunity to strengthen our preparedness and further promote the safety and well-being of our entire school community.

We would also like to thank the House Committee for organising another successful house event. Last week’s Capture the Flag competition was a fantastic opportunity for students to show teamwork, strategy, and school spirit. It was wonderful to see so many students engaged and enjoying themselves.

Looking ahead, on 15th May we will welcome a number of universities and colleges for a College Recruitment Fair. This event is part of our ongoing commitment to offering students informed and personalised guidance as they explore their future academic pathways.

Finally, a reminder to save the date for International Day on 24th May. Expect a day filled with cultural performances, engaging activities, and a wide array of delicious international foods. We warmly invite all families to join us for this special celebration of diversity and community spirit.

We look forward to the rest of the term and all that lies ahead.

Warm regards,

Tala Issa
