The Primary Section Stories 25/04/2025

Primary Newsletter 25/04/2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back after the spring holiday. I hope you were able to enjoy the good weather and get out and about for plenty of fresh air.

As many of you will already know, we took a team of six children to the ECIS ( The Educational  Collaborative for International Schools) Leadership conference in Stuttgart. The students presented to school leaders from around the world. The theme of the conference was Human Flourishing and our students presented on our Primary Student Voice; the process of being elected, how the meetings run, their fundraising for charities and other activities around the school. The title of our presentation was ‘Never too young to make a difference’. Our students were a great success. They demonstrated confidence, spoke with clarity and led activities for the adults very competently. Everyone there was very impressed and they had several mentions in the conference social media.

This was a very prestigious accomplishment for our school and for our Primary students. Well done to everyone involved and a big thank you to the parents who accompanied and supported our students.

On Tuesday it was Earth Day. Our Early Years Foundation class celebrated this with some recycling, papermaking and planting activities. It is wonderful to see our young children developing these skills and understanding.

I cannot emphasise enough how teaching our children to care for the planet is vital in this day and age. Every individual contribution makes a difference no matter how small. It deeply upsets me that wherever I travel in the world single use plastic and rubbish litter the countryside, this then gets washed into the rivers and makes its way into the oceans. This is damaging to wildlife, causes pollution, creates eyesores that spoil our living environments and of course the pollution gets into the food chain and ultimately causes health issues for humans.

Today we have had an assembly to remind ourselves of this and I have asked the students to make sure they continue to care for our planet as they get older. We learnt a song called I am the Earth and we hope that our students will be leaders in protecting our planet and saving our natural heritage as adults. Here is the link to the video we shared with some of the older children. Marine Debris – The Fight Against Ocean Trash

On Tuesday we also sent two mixed teams from class 4 and 5 to a competition at ISF Leuven. We were competing against other international schools from Belgium. Ms Louise accompanied the students and was very impressed by the organisation and the participation. The teams answered 64 questions over a variety of subjects. We were delighted and amazed to find that our teams came in 1st and 3rd. So congratulations all round. We should be receiving our trophies soon.

Please make sure you read your child’s class newsletter each Friday as a lot of useful information is shared there. We get a bit disappointed when parents say they didn’t know about an event and the children do not participate. We had our house pride day on Wednesday but many students forgot to come dressed in their house colours.

Next week it is a public holiday on Thursday and we are having a teacher training day on Friday so the students have a long weekend. We will see everyone on Monday.

Have a great weekend and a wonderful week ahead.
