Secondary Newsletter 27/06/2025

To our valued parents and ISBe community members,

As we reach the final days of term, it’s hard to believe just how much has happened in these last few weeks. The energy and involvement from our students have made this a memorable end to the school year.

One of the most special moments was our Class 12 Graduation. The ceremony was a heartfelt celebration of each student’s journey—marked by speeches, music, laughter, and a few tears. Families, friends, and staff came together to honour a group of young people who have grown into confident, thoughtful graduates, ready for what comes next. The personal reflections shared by our students were especially touching and reminded us all of the strong sense of community that defines ISBe.

Another highlight was the Secondary Sleepover, a much-anticipated event that didn’t disappoint. Students took over the school for a night of games, movies, pizza, and very little sleep. It was a chance for different year groups to mix in a relaxed setting and enjoy each other’s company outside the classroom. Whether they were battling it out in the sports hall or singing along to late-night karaoke, the sense of camaraderie and joy was unmistakable.

Academic life remained full with the Block Exams, where students approached their assessments with focus and resilience. We were proud to see the maturity they brought to their studies.

Our Academic Award Ceremony was another important moment, where we recognised students for their outstanding achievements, effort, and progress across all subject areas. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the academic commitment and personal growth we’ve seen throughout the year.

Our calendar was also packed with enriching off-campus experiences. Middle School students travelled to Ouddorp, where they braved the waves at a local surf school and enjoyed time together by the sea. They also had an Urban Day in Rotterdam, exploring the city through hip-hop dance, graffiti art, and skateboarding workshops, a creative and active way to end the year.

Humanities field trips, House and Student Council presentations, and the TOK Exhibition all gave students a chance to reflect on their learning and showcase their ideas. Meanwhile, DoE participants and our senior students enjoyed their trip to Germany, taking on new challenges and deepening friendships along the way.

A true celebration of student talent came in the form of our End-of-Year Show. The evening featured outstanding performances from our Drama and LAMDA students, who impressed us with their confidence, storytelling, and stage presence. From monologues to ensemble pieces, the quality and passion on display were remarkable. The event also featured our Talent Show finalists, who lit up the stage with music, dance, and comedy, making it a night to remember. Thank you to all who participated and supported behind the scenes.

Finally, the year ended on a sweet note with the Student Council’s ice cream truck and our lively Summer Dance, both of which brought the whole Secondary School together in celebration.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to our dedicated teaching team. Their hard work, creativity, and care have shaped everything we’ve achieved this year. To those staff members who are moving on to new adventures, thank you for the contributions you have made to ISBe. You will be greatly missed, and we wish you every success in the next chapter.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr Johnson for his unwavering support of the Secondary School during his time with us. His contributions have been greatly appreciated, and both of his children will be missed by staff and peers alike. We wish the whole family the very best as they move on to new opportunities. Looking ahead, we are delighted to welcome Mr John Black, who will be joining us in August. We look forward to the experience and energy he will bring to our team.

To the students who are leaving us this summer, ISBe will always be your home. We wish you the very best in your new schools and new countries. Stay curious, be kind, and keep in touch.

Thank you to all families for your ongoing support. We wish you a restful, sunny summer break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in August.

Warm regards,
