Primary Newsletter 27/06/2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have made it through to the end of another academic year. The end of year celebrations are very exciting for the students and exhausting for the teachers but we feel it is worth it and we are sure they do too.

We have to say goodbye to some of our students and staff who are moving on to new places or back to a home in another country. We wish you all the very best. A special thank you to Mr Cruz for teaching Class 5 while Ms G has been on maternity leave and an enormous thank you to Ms Irina who has been teaching Class 1 while Ms Michelle has been absent. Ms Irina will be the official Class 1 teacher starting in August and she cannot wait to get started.

Recently we have enjoyed a Dutch assembly where the students performed very well.

Our class 3, 4 and 5 students were able to take part in a special AI presentation helping them to understand some of the possibilities and pitfalls of AI in these current times. The students enjoyed the presentation and got a lot out of it.

At the end of the year when the weather is good it is a great opportunity for our students to go on outdoor trips. Early Years have been to the farm recently and also taken a trip on the Waterbus as part of their Going Places unit.

For class 3 and 4 it was time for the residential trip to Sporta. Two nights away being independent, mixing with their friends and having wonderful new experiences. Our students love this time and really benefit in so many ways. Thank you to our teaching staff who give up their own time to accompany them.

On the 19th June we had our end of year school show. Written by Mr Jonathon and the LAMDA students. This was another triumph with students demonstrating their performance skills and acting ability. The winners of the school talent show also performed, adding to the event. It was great to see so many families there.

So some of the celebrations that have taken place in the last week or so have been the award or moving on ceremonies. As a school we like to acknowledge the achievements of all of our students. On Monday 23/06 we had the class 1 and 2 award ceremony. Students are presented awards for the IPC personal learning goals such as being ethical, a collaborator and so on. Specialist teachers recognise students who have contributed well to their lessons. Other students are recognised for making the most improvement in their learning. They may have started from a low point but they have really come on. Then we recognise the highest achievers in the class finishing with the best achiever in class.

We hold these ceremonies for class 3 and 4 as well. In addition, class 5 share their best memories of life in Primary school. All classes performed songs.

The EY Foundation class held their moving up ceremony in the willow bower. They had decorated the inside. They acted out how plants grow, took turns to read a story about ‘ten seeds’ and received their certificates. It was a delightful moment to be out in nature and celebrating all that they had achieved in school.

Primary Student Voice were able to organise some final activities for the students. They held a Bubbles and fun afternoon. A big thank you to Ms Irina for leading the PSV these last two terms.

On Wednesday afternoon the students were able to have a water party. They brought in a change of clothes, towels and water pistols of varying shapes and sizes and proceeded to douse each other and the teachers. It was a hot day and so everyone enjoyed the experience.

On Thursday morning there was the final whole school assembly where we said goodbye to some of the school teachers. Lastly of course we made our final fond farewell to Mr Johnson who is moving to another school. We thank him for his contributions to the school and send him off with our very best wishes. Our new Head of School, Mr Black, will be arriving in August.

After the assembly we had class parties and the students were able to have an early finish and depart at approximately 1.15.

Friday we had our parent teacher conferences. Thank you to everybody who was able to make it.

August 26th is parent orientation day where you can find out all about your child’s new class and August 27th School starts in earnest.

Have a great weekend and a great summer and we look forward to seeing you in August.
