Dear Parents and Carers,

Today is Friendship Friday in Primary. Friendships are such an important part of life, and we want to ensure our children understand what it means to be a good friend, while giving them the tools to build strong and healthy relationships.

Children are often very aware of how others treat them, but may not reflect as much on their own behaviour. We encourage them to think about how sharing, caring, and listening to others’ ideas can strengthen friendships. One of the trickiest but most important lessons is forgiveness—everyone makes mistakes, including ourselves, and learning to forgive helps friendships grow. Later this term, our Anti-Bullying Week will build on the themes we explore during Friendship Fridays.

In today’s assembly, students shared some of the games they had learned and their ideas about being a good friend.

In last week’s assembly, Class 3 gave a fantastic presentation about World Clean Up Day. They reminded us that, if humans continue on their current path, our planet faces serious consequences. The children highlighted the importance of responsible rubbish disposal, the dangers of pollution, and the impact on nature and people.

The whole Primary school took part in litter pick-ups around the neighbourhood, while Classes 3 and 4 went further afield to Van Eden Park and did a sterling job clearing rubbish. With litter pickers and high-vis jackets loaned by the commune, and gloves brought from home, the students worked safely and responsibly. A big well done to everyone who took part! We also reminded the children that caring for our environment is not just for one day—it’s something we should do all the time.

Ms Jenny has shared further information on World Clean Up Day if you would like to learn more.

On Tuesday, we joined the Aartselaar School’s annual Cross Country Run. All students from Class 1 to Class 6 participated, and it was wonderful to see parents cheering their children on. Each year, we see improvements in the students’ performance, and I would like to congratulate every participant for their effort and determination. Special congratulations also go to those who placed highly after working hard in their training. Please see Mr Gabor’s report for full details.

We have relaunched the Junior Duke Awards, which we are offering throughout the Primary School. This is a valuable programme that develops children’s life skills, social skills, and academic learning through engaging challenges. Please ensure the €25 fee has been paid so that students can receive their challenge books and can begin working towards their award and certificate.

Our Early Years students enjoyed their first school trip of the year to Rollebolle in Antwerp. Please see Mrs Harwood’s report for more details on their exciting time.

I wish you a wonderful weekend and a great week ahead.

Warm regards,

Sharon Short
