Dear Parents and Carers,

On the 2nd of February Class 2 took a trip to the Natural Science Museum in Brussels to add to their unit ‘Footprints from the Past’. They were particularly looking at the dinosaur exhibition and were fascinated by all that they saw. They thought about being palaeontologists and finding and learning about dinosaurs from the evidence left behind. They learned how some dinosaurs ate stones to help digest their food and the function of different dinosaur shapes. They really learnt a lot and had a wonderful time too. Thank you to Ms Wynne for organising the trip.

On the 4th February class 4 took a trip to the Art and History museum in Brussels. This was linked to their unit ‘The Brave and the Bold’. The museum staff were amazed by how much our students knew and compared their knowledge and understanding to that of the usual teenage groups they have. Well done to class 4 for representing ISBe in the best possible way. Thank you to Ms Louise and Ms Mac who accompanied them on the trip.

The second round of the Maths Olympiad took place this week. This year we had 7 participants who had already scored in the highest level of the first round of the competition. One of our students was ranked 1 in the international competition. Well done everyone.

On Thursday classes 1 and 2 collaborated for a 100 days of school celebration. The students and teachers directly involved dressed up as if they were 100 years old with white hair and glasses and flat caps for the boys. They looked terrific. They even stooped and staggered as they walked around! They had lots of fun competitions and activities related to 100. They even decorated the theatre with a 100 link paper chain.

On Friday it was Carnival celebration time, but before we got into that Class 3 shared their assembly linked to their IPC unit ‘How humans work’. The students clearly explained how various systems in the body function, showed us models they had made and experiments they had carried out. It was really fascinating and they knew so much. They and their teacher Ms Jenny were warmly congratulated by the rest of Primary.

After that we had our exciting carnival parade where the students showed us all their costumes or party clothes and moved rhythmically to the music as they circled the theatre.

In the afternoon we had our Carnival dance which was organised by the Primary Student Voice. This was an activity that had been requested by the pupils in the school. The students had made a range of decorations, they brought in special lights from home and created a music playlist. The rest of the students were asked to bring in their water bottles but the Primary Student Voice did provide fruit juice and water as well. The students all took part in dance competitions and were able to use the fluorescent batons for a while. The students said they really enjoyed the event. Thank you to all the primary teachers who supported the event. There was a charge for this activity and the money raised will go towards setting up the PSV big charity event later in the year.

This week I have been out of school quite a lot carrying out a virtual school visit for NEASC. It has been very worthwhile and I have seen a lot that I will be able to bring back to our school. It was a great thing to do but I am now shattered as the calls started at 6.00 am in the morning and the report writing went on late into the night. I am definitely ready for our school half term holiday, as are many of the students and all of the teachers! I wish you all an active and fun week and look forward to seeing all of the students again on the 23rd of February.

Have a wonderful weekend and a great week ahead.

Warm regards,
