Primary Newsletter 12/12/2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
The end of the calendar year is always a busy time in Primary School, with lots of exciting activities for our students. The learning at this time is more social and emotional, but still extremely valuable. Performance skills are honed for life and confidence is built, all vital for a successful future. Connections between students are strengthened and friendships become firmer.
I hope you were able to join us on 29th November for the Festival of Lights, one of the highlights of the school calendar. Primary classes worked very hard to prepare performances for the stage, as well as activities and decorations for their own stalls. The event is always magical, and this year was no exception. It was rounded off with a firework display from the roof. We hope you all enjoyed the event.
Sinterklaas, the traditional Belgian event, was celebrated in school on 8th December. Mischievous Piet visited the classes overnight and messed them up. The students had left out carrots, sugar cubes, and some carefully crafted shoes before the weekend, and in return they received tangerines and speculoos in their shoes. Sinterklaas visited later in the morning with Piet, heard the children sing, and let them know what he had seen over the year. Piet then shared some sweets with the students.
On Wednesday, 10th December, we held the Primary Nutcracker performance. This was written, organised and arranged by Ms Nichols. Parents and some secondary students were invited to watch. We were delighted that a few were able to make it. The performance was impressive, and all credit should go to Ms Nichols, who had worked with the students for weeks, and Mr Jonathan, who worked with the narrators. It has been suggested that this end-of-term performance become a tradition!
The 11th of December was the Science Olympiad. Our students who were taking part have been studying hard with the practice materials, and we will eagerly await the results later in the year.
Class 5 had their super residential visit to the European Space Center last week. All of the students had an amazing time experiencing some of the elements of astronaut training, building and launching their own rockets, and of course being independent in the center and having a great time.
These are just a few excerpts from our busy calendar.
Our Early Years children have really been enjoying their Junior Duke tasks. I have heard of students making toast, doing the hoovering, and learning to tie a knot. Over the holidays is another chance to practise and succeed in one of the challenges. I am delighted that the Early Years children are embracing this opportunity and look forward to hearing more about their successes with the challenges.

We wish all of our students and families a very happy holiday season and look forward to seeing you all again on 5th January.
