Class 2 Update

A Wonderful Start with Class 2 at ISBe
By Wynne Buckner, Class 2 Teacher

As one of the newest members of the ISBe community, I want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped make my first month here so special. From day one, I’ve felt incredibly welcomed and supported by students, staff, and families alike—it’s clear that ISBe is a truly warm and positive place to spend each day.

Class 2, in particular, has made my start an absolute joy. Their energy, kindness, and curiosity have set the tone for a fantastic beginning, and I already feel so lucky to be their teacher.

This term in our IPC unit Material World, Class 2 stepped into the shoes of real scientists and engineers. We’ve explored everything from fair testing and the scientific method to the unique properties of different materials and why we use them in specific ways. It’s been amazing to see the children ask thoughtful questions, revisit prior knowledge, and tackle misconceptions—all while embracing the idea that taking risks and making mistakes is a natural (and important!) part of learning.

We wrapped up the unit with an exciting design challenge: each student created their very own invention! After carefully choosing materials based on their properties, the children built prototypes and proudly presented them to the class. The creativity, reasoning, and excitement they brought to this project were truly inspiring.

I’m so proud of all that Class 2 has achieved already and can’t wait for more hands-on learning, laughter, and discovery in Term 3!
